Nobody's Princess by Erica Ridley

I do keep seeing this pitched as f/f, and the cover definitely makes Tommy look more feminine, but although she uses she/her pronouns there’s really quite a lot more nuance to it than that, so just something to bear in mind that the marketing’s not quite fair to the nuance of the book (also, Philippa is described as plump, so I don’t know who the people on the cover are!). This is a first for Erica Ridley – a queer romance! I loved seeing nonbinary Tommy and thought that the way she dealt with gender felt very honest and genuine – it is something of a focus of the story, but never feels like it’s being dumbed down or overly explained, and it’s not a subject of terrible angst, it’s just a part of Tommy.

I realised recently that I had a whole bunch of review copies of her books waiting on my Kindle to catch up on! All of these were ebooks sent to me free of charge, but as always my opinions are my own.

Erica Ridley is one of my favourite historical romance authors, with her light-hearted tone and lovely characters, and she’s also super prolific.
